Joseph Ejiro was founded in 2019 with a focus on creating sculptural, design-led garments that merge technical precision with artistic expression. The brand was built on a commitment to craftsmanship, where each piece is thoughtfully constructed to emphasize form, movement, and structure. The story began in Lagos, Nigeria, where early explorations in design were shaped by a deep appreciation for cultural detail, materiality, and storytelling through clothing. This foundation continues to inform the brand’s perspective today, even as operations have expanded to the United States. At its core, Joseph Ejiro is about redefining contemporary luxury through intentional design. The brand focuses on limited production, refined silhouettes, and a balance between innovation and wearability. Each collection is developed with a clear identity, emphasizing architectural draping, distinctive construction, and a strong visual language that sets it apart. Collections
A veillée is a gathering held after dark. In West African tradition, it is where stories are kept alive, where grief and joy share the same candlelight. For Fall/Winter 2026, Joseph Ejiro returns to that space between mourning and celebration, building a collection that lives in the tension of opposing forces: black against ivory, structure against flow, the weight of heritage against the freedom of the body in motion.Silhouettes are architectural yet yielding. A corset of lacquered black against rivers of white chiffon. Deep aubergine satin pulled into precise seams that open suddenly into trailing lengths of fabric. Featherwork and cord embroidery rising from the bodice like something organic, something remembered. The gown cuts close, then releases. Veillée is not a collection about darkness. It is a collection about what endures when the lights go down, what the body carries forward, and what it is finally free to lay down. It is demi-couture at its most intentional: slow, considered, and deeply felt.
My vision for this collection was to reimagine Nigerian design as a modern, global language. I explored cultural dualities, from the regal, architectural shoulders of Igbo blouses to the soft, protective embrace of a simple wrapper. The silhouettes move between the grandeur of ceremonial robes and the intimacy of body-conscious forms, reflecting both shared heritage and personal identity. Craftsmanship and symbolism are central to the work. Accessories draw from the coiling of Adudu basketry, the geometry of Akwete cloth, and the tassels of Sahelian gear, while garments reference Yoruba beadwork, Benin court art, and the Igbo concept of Chi. Many draped and knotted forms pay tribute to one of the most powerful gestures I know: the way a mother secures her child with a wrapper. That act, both strong and tender, is a guiding principle of my design process. This collection is an homage to Nigerian heritage in all its forms, royal, ceremonial, personal, and maternal, expressed as a living language of strength, craft, and love.
